My Manuscript Wish List®

Jillian Ramirez is looking for voice-driven literary and upmarket fiction. She is also willing to consider nonfiction if it’s a good fit.

Recent and forthcoming titles include Syracuse MFA graduate Sydney Rende’s debut story collection I Could Be Famous; New Yorker contributor Ariella Elovic’s funny and profound illustrated memoir Thirty; and NY-based illustrator Andrea Cáceres’ Dog Affirmations, a gift book inspired by her viral Instagram series.

In FICTION she is looking for coming-of-age narratives; stories that explore philosophical questions, especially regarding disability and religion; dark humor; underrepresented voices; stories about a friendship or relationship over the course of many years; stories about sister relationships, brother-sister relationships, and grandmother-granddaughter relationships; novels about team sports; books set in New Jersey, Pittsburgh, or the PNW.

She is not looking for genre fiction including historical fiction, mysteries, and thrillers.

Her dream fiction books are Pure Colour by Sheila Heti; Dogs of Summer by Andrea Abreu transl. Julia Sanches; The Idiot by Elif Batuman; Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin; Brother & Sister Enter the Forest by Richard Mirabella; Beartown by Fredrik Backman; Women Talking by Miriam Toews; and The Anthropologists by Ayşegül Savaş.
