I’d like the next…
IN THE WOODS, because I admire the way Tana French writes a police procedural that feels like a literary novel. I’d like the next LIFE AFTER LIFE or any of the Jackson Brodie novels, because of how Kate Atkinson plays with the novel form and how she layers allusions, voices, and complex storylines together. I’d love the next NOTHING TO SEE HERE by Kevin Wilson because of how he’s written a seemingly completely normal realistic novel–with a batshit premise. Or the next Emily St. John Mandel, especially SEA OF TRANQUILITY and THE GLASS HOTEL. Bring me a new THE PORPOISE or a new Colwill Brown and I will drop everything to see what’s going on in your pages.
My favorites include…
Favorite films: The Bourne Identity–a classic case of an art film that’s also full of suspense and character; Days of Heaven; Everything Everywhere All At Once; Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind; Atonement; the Joe Wright Pride and Prejudice; The Painted Veil
Favorite books: anything by Kate Atkinson; McEwan’s Saturday; Tom Drury’s The End of Vandalism.
Favorite TV:Â The Gilmore Girls, The Bear;Â Dead to Me;Â Alias;Â The Residence
And of course many more and different things I can’t think of at the drop of a hat.
