My Manuscript Wish List®

I am an editorial assistant at St. Martin’s Press, where I am building a list of commercial fiction and nonfiction. I graduated from Middlebury College in 2024 with a degree in English Literature and Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies. As an avid consumer of books, movies, and music across all genres, I am looking for stories that pull you in and refuse to let you go.

Fiction:

On the fiction side, I am primarily looking for upmarket women’s fiction and book club fiction. I also love novels that lean towards literary fiction. I am looking for stories that explore complex relationships or multi-generational tales, and that keep you on your toes. My favorite recent reads in these areas have been THE BOOK OF TWO WAYS by Jodi Picoult, REMARKABLY BRIGHT CREATURES by Shelby Van Pelt, and HELLO BEAUTIFUL by Ann Napolitano. I’m a huge fan of anything with a speculative angle, especially books that mess with time and leave you trying to wrap your mind around how the world works. Some examples include THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE by Audrey Niffenegger and THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD by Colson Whitehead.

I also love historical fiction! As a die-hard fan of Downton Abbey and The Crown, I’m looking for anything that leans heavily into the time period, exploring untold stories/perspectives and the gender, racial, and social dynamics of the time. To me, in book form this looks like AMERICAN WOMAN by Susan Choi or LESSONS IN CHEMISTRY by Bonnie Garmus. I was also a Greek mythology obsessed child, and a classics and fairytale obsessed English major, and would love to find books that take a new spin on a classic tale, like THE WIFE UPSTAIRS by Rachel Hawkins and SONG OF ACHILLES by Madeline Miller.

I am open to select adult romance, and have a slight preference for rom-coms and dark romances. I am a devoted re-reader of ATTACHMENTS and LANDLINE by Rainbow Rowell, and really enjoyed THE ROM-COMMERS by Katherine Center.

Nonfiction:

On the nonfiction side, I am looking for narrative, story-driven books about history, politics, women’s/feminist issues, and pop culture. I am a sucker for redemption and underdog stories (especially in sports), and I would love to find something like THE BOYS IN THE BOAT by Daniel James Brown. Again, I am very interested in the gender, racial, and social dynamics of different time periods, and am looking for books like INCIDENTS IN THE LIFE OF A SLAVE GIRL by Harriet Ann Jacobs and PROPOGANDA GIRLS by Lisa Rogak that reveal historical figures, events, and movements and their lasting impacts. In pop-culture, I am endlessly fascinated by the development of cultural phenomena (Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, the Barbie movie, the rise of the social media, etc.) and would love to find books like PIXEL FLESH by Ellen Atlanta that explore the intricacies of those cultural moments and the effects they have on broader culture and consumer groups, especially younger, female audiences.

I am also open to memoirs that share personal insights and emotion-driven stories, like INSOMNIAC CITY by Bill Hayes and SALT, SWEAT & STEAM by Brigid Washington.

Fun facts about me:

I have two dogs, I’m a massive Taylor Swift fan, and I love to embroider and cross-stitch! A niche book that I would love to find (as a YELLOW WALLPAPER and MRS. DALLOWAY fan) is anything about hysteria (fiction or nonfiction)!
