Molly Powell

I am the Editorial Director of Hodderscape, the science fiction, fantasy and horror list at UK-based Hodder & Stoughton. I’ve worked in publishing for far too long, and I publish commercial and upmarket SFF, in both adult and young adult.

Across the genre, I love epic stories that feel larger than life, filled with characters with big dreams and bigger hearts, tropes done right, pining romances that sweep you off your feet, world-ending missions, and, above all, distinctive and diverse voices with something to say. I love wounded heroes, angry women, monstrous girls, revolutionaries, found families, joyful queer love stories, pining, intricate plots, and, best of all, flawed characters that learn and grow. My favourite books are high octane and high intensity, without ever losing the human element at their core. I want to be gripped by the start, and in tears by the end.

I commission science fiction and fantasy in both the young adult and adult space, with a particular passion for diverse voices and fresh concepts. I’m looking for very commercial SFF stories, especially retellings, fae, witches, second-world fantasies, cozy, historical, gothic, low or courtly fantasy, and accessible science fiction, as well as intelligent, brilliantly written speculative stories from breakout voices.

Fantasy will always be my first love, and please give me romance, romance, romance, magic and adventure. I am especially looking for queer stories, and diverse voices and worlds.
