A forever English major, I love books that are critical, naturally analytical, and engaging. I’m looking for novels that keep me on my toes and have a sweeping plot paired with sharp writing. SUCH A FUN AGE by Kiley Reid, SEVERANCE by Ling Ma, I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS FOR YOU by Rebecca Makkai, or THE GUEST by Emma Cline are some examples of books that I couldn’t put down, but also couldn’t stop thinking about after. I’m also a sucker for books about young people discovering and understanding their place in the world — if your comp is Sally Rooney or Lily King, please send it my way!
I’m always on the hunt for the perfect campus novel like THE IDIOT by Elif Batuman, THE SECRET HISTORY by Donna Tartt, and MY LAST INNOCENT YEAR by Daisy Florin Alpert. I particularly love world-building and anything that takes place in a distinct setting that works in tandem with the plot and am partial to stories set in underrepresented geographical locations, like DEMON COPPERHEAD by Barbara Kingsolver or THE ROUND HOUSE by Louise Erdrich. I’m also interested in quiet, yet sweeping literary suspense novels, such as THE GOD OF THE WOODS by Liz Moore and NORTHEN SPY by Flynn Berry and love slow-burn, sprawling mysteries like THE HUNTER by Tana French.
Fun facts about me:
When my nose isn’t in a book, I’m typically cooking new recipes, knitting a sweater, and attempting to get better at tennis!
