Bear with me as I get more eloquent at sharing exactly what I’m looking for, but mostly you should know that I am looking to feel. Make me laugh, cry, tense up, teach me something about myself or the world — shock me! — and you’ll have me hooked. I respond immediately to a unique voice and pitch, and have found that the more concisely you can pitch your premise, the more eagerly I will want to read.

I’m looking for writers from any and all backgrounds delivering:
    • Commercial and upmarket fiction that will make me cry (family drama/coming of age all accepted), laugh, think differently about a relationship dynamic, and generally has a fun bit of quirk that still has a plot and a strong voice. Don’t forget about plot. Page-turning is important, especially in a query. I want to know what I’m rooting for, what question we will answer, what mysteries we will uncover pretty early on in your pages.
    • Mystery/thriller/suspense with a last-page jawdropper, compelling characters, and urgent pacing. Quirky/weird is great!
    • Romance with a relatable main character and witty dialogue, definitely across subgenres. Chemistry is a must.  Banter and tension must be excellent. RomComs – yes! Romantic suspense – fab! Romantasy – make it unique in some way!
    • Historical fiction that feels nostalgic, even for the 80s, 90s, early 2000’s, reimagines a well-known story, has a magical element, or tells an unknown story in a unique way.
    • Novels as a whole about women’s inner lives that straddle the line between commercial and literary from a diverse range of voices and backgrounds.
I love a strong sense of place, a bit of magic, and some of my favorite novels are those you want to savor but end up reading in a day.  Tension amongst characters – in any genre – is a win.   On top of that, I respond very well to voice, even in email communication. That speaks loudly to me about an author’s potential for many things. Don’t send me a generic email if you really want to break through. Please know why you’re pitching me — specifically me! — and not just any agent. Take a look around the marketplace and share with me what makes your premise and perspective unique and necessary in this place and time. Please also choose one agent within my agency to query. If you query multiple agents at the same time, we will all likely pass.   If you’re uncertain if it’s a fit, but think my experience would help make your work sing, give me a try. 🙂   And above all….good luck!
