My Manuscript Wish List®
Fiction-wise, I’m looking for stories with complex, emotionally resonant characters and smart, observant writing. As long as those elements are present, my taste is wide-ranging, although I tend to prefer novels with a good amount of both plot and interiority. I especially adore clever, intricately assembled stories that challenge me to figure out where everything is going.
I am often drawn to books that are a little strange, and especially ones that use speculative, mythological/folkloric, or fantastic elements in beautiful, original ways. I also love seeing other genres (like thrillers and romance) that are written for a literary/upmarket readership.
I enjoy novels with a strong sense of setting, particularly when that setting is international, rural, Southern, in “flyover country,” or anywhere that isn’t NYC or LA.
I am extremely interested in publishing works from marginalized authors, and have a particular interest in stories that engage with gender and sexuality, disability, and neurodiversity. I would love to see more books with trans or nonbinary protagonists.
Please send me more nonfiction! I love smart, well-researched, accessible books that examine some aspect of how humans interact with each other or the world. Think cultural histories, subcultural deep dives, works of popular psychology, interdisciplinary approaches to STEM topics, journalistic exposés, anything language or linguistics, anything about the internet–in a nutshell, culture writing that explores how we got here (wherever “here” might be).
I am most interested in memoirs when they also contain a researched or reported element, and I am a less likely match for prescriptive nonfiction and true crime.
Across fiction and nonfiction, I appreciate a distinctive voice, a sense of humor, a drive towards introspection, and an empathetic sensibility.
Fun facts about me:

- In high school, my favorite novels were The Book Thief and Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. I enjoy unusual narrators.
- I’m a big D&D player (halfling cleric!) and Critical Role fan.
- I enjoy dabbling in many crafts, most frequently embroidery.
- I’m a strong believer in the value of fanfiction.
- I love theater and my favorite shows are Company, Into the Woods, and Fiddler on the Roof.
