My Manuscript Wish List®

I’m a freelance editor (and former full-time Scholastic and Penguin Random House editor) of middle grade, YA, and adult nonfiction that seeks to tell interesting new stories, tells old stories in new ways or from new perspectives, educates and entertains, captures reluctant readers, and helps young readers see the world around them in a new light.

While I am no longer acquiring, I continue to look for the following in my editorial projects:

  • Narrative: Inspiring stories that grapple with identity, current events, and young readers’ place in the world; Historical (adventure tales, unsolved mysteries, cultural histories, little-known history, etc.–and feminist/minority-focused history a plus), inspirational memoir
  • Science and other reference: Books that make science fun and accessible for young readers and non-narrative history that brings to life the world around us in exciting ways
  • YA/MG adaptations: With such a wealth of backlist and frontlist adult titles out there, I’m eager to find vital nonfiction stories that can be adapted for younger readers
  • Diverse creators: Key to publishing new perspectives and new stories is being mindful about choosing who gets to tell those stories–I’d love to bring a diversity of voices, artists, and experiences to my list in every way.
