My Manuscript Wish List®
I am Ashley Reisinger, an associate literary agent at Triada US Literary Agency where I am actively building my list in the following genres and age categories.
In general, I have a broad range of interests in primairly Adult and YA fiction and I gravitate toward stories that have a strong commercial premise and more literary writing. My tastes tend to encompass a little bit of everything, and I’m really drawn to genre-blending—I particularly love when speculative elements or twists are incorporated into familiar genre structures (i.e., spec romances, mysteries in SFF settings, etc.). I am always seeking stories that reflect diverse experiences and perspectives from traditionally underrepresented voices.
Adult
Romance:
I am primarily looking for romance in the adult age category, specifically:
- Romance with a spec twist and/or paranormal romance (witches, ghosts, vampires, magic, timeloops, love spells, soulmates, etc.)
- Romantasy
- I’m more drawn to cozy romantasy
- the worldbuilding needs to feel very grounded and accessible with the focus more on the “rom” than the “fantasy”
- I love villain romances
- Adventure, heist, or mystery roms (the more bonkers, the better)
- Nerdy/fandom romances (cosplay, fanart/fanfic, D&D, etc.)
- Sports roms (particularly BIPOC and/or LGBTQ)
- Horror romance
Think: THE DEAD ROMANTICS, BOYFRIEND MATERIAL, A WITCH’S GUIDE TO MAGICAL INNKEEPING, GOOD SPIRITS, A KILLER KIND OF ROMANCE, WRITING MR. RIGHT
In romance, am NOT typically the right fit for historical, regency, medical, Christmas, cowboy/western, or super dark romances. I’m also NOT the right fit for erotica, police/detective love interests, or serious romantic thrillers/suspense.
Other:
I am also selectively open to the following in Adult, though prefer if they have a strong romantic subplot:
- Horror
While I enjoy and am open to a broad range of horror, I would really love something funny, satirical, or meta in this space. - Grounded/accessible or low SFF
I tend to prefer low SFF over space operas or second world fantasy. The higher fantasy that does appeal to me is more grounded/accessible and is often a bit campier (e.g., D&D vibes).
For Adult titles, think: MEXICAN GOTHIC, BAD CREE, DIAL A FOR AUNTIES, MAYBE IN ANOTHER LIFE, SORCERY AND SMALL MAGICS, ASSISTANT TO THE VILLAIN, DUNGEON CRAWLER CARL
In Adult, I am NOT typically the right fit for historical fiction, police procedurals, military narratives, high fantasy, space operas, or dystopian.
Young Adult
In YA I am looking for:
- Romance with a speculative twist (magic, ghosts, timeloops, soul mates, etc.)
- Contemporary fantasy (whether light and fun or dark and spooky)
- Magical academies and/or dark academia
- Horror
- Genre blending
- Retellings/reimaginings (that don’t stick TOO CLOSE to the source
- Illustrated graphic novels (I’m not taking script-only submissions at this time)
For YA think: THE WHISPERING DARK, CEMETERY BOYS, WILDER GIRLS, SO LET THEM BURN, THE DARKNESS OUTSIDE US, the ARC OF A SCYTHE series, HOW TO SUCCEED IN WITCHCRAFT
In YA I am NOT typically the right fit for historical, high sci-fi/space operas, high fantasy, dystopian, Arthurian retellings, teen pregnancy stories, eating disorders, “sick lit”, horse books, Christmas stories, or zombies.
Middle Grade
I am very selectively seeking MG. In MG, I am primarily looking for upper MG (I am not taking chapter books at this time) and illustrated graphic novels (I’m not taking script-only submissions at this time).
For MG think: FRONT DESK; RED, WHITE, AND WHOLE; JUST A PINCH OF MAGIC
In MG I am NOT typically the right fit for historical fiction, time travel, animal protagonists, dystopian, European-inspired fantasy settings, high sci-fi/space operas, Christmas books, “sick lit”, zombies, chapter books, or lower MG.
