Audrey Ingerson

I’m looking for YA and MG, particularly contemporary fiction, psychological suspense/thrillers, speculative fiction, creative retellings, and historical fiction – honestly the only genres I really shy away from are high fantasy and sci-fi.

For YA, I’m interested in stories with defined hooks and commercial potential, and my favorites are always those that skew a bit dark and literary, too. I like deadpan humor, horror without the gore, creepy fairytales with a Gothic sensibility, worlds with hints of magic, and books that make me feel complicated emotions.

For middle grade, I connect with stories that speak to kids in a real, authentic way, with resilience and hope at their core. I’m looking for the books that are odd, clever, and a little unlikely – even better if they have undercurrents of magical realism or grim humor – and I can’t resist a well-crafted scheme or mystery!

Across all genres, compelling voice and emotional depth are the most important things to me. I love rich settings, characters with complex inner lives, and creative approaches to format and narration . . . anything that makes me look at something in a new light.
