Hello! I’m an editor at Joy Revolution, an imprint of Random House Children’s Books. Joy Revolution is the brainchild of bestselling, critically acclaimed authors David and Nicola Yoon. Together, we’re looking to publish YA romance novels by and about people of color. We have a strong desire to place POC at the center of epic love stories, and to normalize telling them. Joy Revolution is a safe space for every reader and writer to revel in the full breadth of their humanity—a place that emphasizes joy rather than pain or heartache.

So, what is JR looking for specifically? Unabashedly romantic stories! Please send me novels, including graphic novels, with a commercial hook and well-conceived plot points. We’d like to see rom-coms, philosophical narratives with characters exploring big ideas, and stories that go against stereotypes, told in an aspirational setting and situation. Under the BIPOC teen romance umbrella, we welcome all interracial love, same race relationships, LGBTQ+ protagonists, as well as those with disabilities and disorders.

In terms of genre, we’re open to it all—contemporary romance, fantasy, mythology/folklore, historical, etc. A strong sense of humor and wit is always welcome. I also love modern retellings of classics, whether it’s Jane Austen, Shakespeare, or some lesser known fairy tale or legend. Above all, romance must always lead the story!
