All Age category wants: BIPOC, Queer/Trans, ND, Disability, Religions & spiritual beliefs underrepresented in publishing, Intersectionality. The world we live in is diverse and our kidlit books should reflect that.
PB wants: Non-Fiction (biography, STEM, history preferrable. This is also the ONLY place I will consider anthropomorphism: talking objects/animals)
themes of grief, stories that break down gender stereotypes, variety of family structures
PB nos: Sports; Anthropomorphism (outside of NF); Issue books, saviorism, or “inspirational” (written to center the dominant narrative of “overcoming” an identity; First day of school; Spending the day with a grandparent; rhyming
MG/YA wants: Horror, SFF (especially afro-futurism & magical realism variety), Mysteries/Thrillers (would love some chilling psychological thrillers), Historicals with a twist (spec, queer, mystery, etc.)
MG/YA nos: I do NOT represent Adult or New Adult age categories or YA/NA crossovers (if your story is set after high school, it’s not for me). Please do not send me MG/YA manuscripts with the following: sff with elements of colonialism/imperialism/slavery, high fantasy/portal fantasy, or sports stories unless there is a twist (spec, thriller, etc.)
