What I like to see are:  Books about the environment – but not just nature writing, also science, business, lifestyle issues, even YA fantasy!  Memoirs about difficult journeys, both literal and emotional.  Stories, both fiction and nonfiction, about sports, all sports.  A crime story by a man or a woman that Elmore Leonard or Joseph Wambaugh might write today if they were in their 20s, 30s, 40s, even 50s or 60s.  New ideas about economics that explain what’s going on today, both on the macro global level – and for the individual (what’s happening to the middle class, how to deal with debt, student loans, etc.).  Fiction that sees a character through a turning point in life.  And always, something unexpected!
