My Manuscript Wish List®

Submission Wishlist

I am looking to represent authors who show a serious dedication to the craft. To be more specific, I want to work with people who have studied writing at a college or university, entered writing contests, attended writing workshops, or have been published in literary journals, news outlets or magazines. People who have laid it all on the line to risk more comfortable ways of earning money, instead opting to *gulp* write novels. I want to work with those types because they think storytelling is what they were put on this earth to do. Those are the type of writers whose careers I can help grow into something special, something that will make the rewards far greater than the risks.

Literary, Upmarket and Book Club Fiction about living. Imagined existence that feels just as real as my own life. The World According to Garp, A Little Life, Never Let Me Go, All Fours, Long Island Compromise… Sally Rooney. No tricks or tropes, just pure imagination. Make me laugh, make me cry; I don’t care, just make me feel something! I’m not exactly sure what makes Book Club fiction different from anything I’ve already covered, but for whatever it’s worth, I loved The God of the Woods. Do with that information whatever you please.

Thrillers, Suspense, Mysteries that challenge readers with high concepts and equal weight to plot and prose, style and substance. My platonic ideal of a great thriller is Five Decembers. If there are three things I will not shut up about, even when I know everyone would like me to shut up, they are Ira Levin, Five Decembers, and John Irving. But the only one of those that matters now is Fiver Decembers. I probably lose whatever literary cred I have when I say that I think it’s the best thriller written this decade. I’ll spare you the rest of my dissertation and move on. If it helps to know, I am not a fan of the voice-y, unreliable first-person narrator or the trope-y novels. The woman (or man) with the perfect life and the perfect marriage until someone from her past returns to unearth a secret that will undo it all… not for me. I understand those kind of thrillers are popular in today’s market, but for some reason I just can’t connect with them.

Domestic Fiction (or, what I like to call Suburban Dysfunction) in any form. Whether it’s suspenseful like Little Fires Everywhere or darkly comedic like The Stepford Wives or even with dose of horror and the supernatural like Rosemary’s Baby, I want to read it.

Horror in the vein of Stephen Graham Jones work. Always has strong sense of place, well-defined characters with clear motives, and a sense of vengeance that is unmatched.

Nonfiction with a focus on narrative nonfiction, true crime, health and wellness, psychology, philosophy, and long form investigative journalism. Platformed writers/personalities preferred, but not a requirement.

Fun facts about me:

First, the basics. Born and raised in Westchester County, NY, I joined InkWell Management after a decade working in a variety of industries, including commercial production, advertising, and humanitarian aid work. Previously, I attended Indiana University and graduated with a degree in political science.

Thinking of real fun facts is hard, but I’ll try my best! I have a dog that looks just like Scooby Doo (his name is Jeremy). I have had a lot of jobs, including: busboy, reporter, first assistant director, copywriter, and disaster relief specialist. Literary agent is where I am happiest, though. Your stories sustain me!
