My Manuscript Wish List®

I joined Little, Brown and Company in 2023. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of working with incredible authors, including Kate Bernheimer, Michael Connelly, Rickey Fayne, Malcolm Gladwell, Nancy Goldstone, Nathan Harris, Adam Haslett, Elin Hilderbrand, Leslie Jamison, Nathaniel Ian Miller, Lisa Owens, N. S. Pagola, Alejandro Puyana, Adam Rapp, Dan Slater, Luis Alberto Urrea, and Joe Wilkins.

I’m building my list at Little, Brown with an eye for Black literary fiction: stories that celebrate the experiences of the Black diaspora, centering Black joy more than Black trauma. In particular, I’d love to see more Black historical novels that aren’t slave narratives; stories about intergenerational friendships and layered communities; and Black love in all its forms. I’m also looking for LGBTQ+ fiction, especially wlw/sapphic/lesbian perspectives. I’m especially interested in stories that go beyond a coming out narrative.

My heartbeat is SF/F and speculative fiction. On the more literary end, I love stories that are high concept but told in a literary register and, conversely, literary novels that lean on the conventions of genre. On the more commercial end, I’m hungry for more historical fantasy (think historical fiction with some supernatural/otherworldly element), cli-fi from the perspective of the Global South/groups disproportionately impacted by climate change, and cozy SF/F.

Overall, I enjoy character-driven stories, voicey prose, vividly rendered settings with a strong sense of place, and an immersive, fast-moving plot.
