I am a novelist, a journalist, a professor of creative writing, and the Imprint Editor at Wildhouse Publishing, a new nonprofit publisher based in Boston. Our first title, and the winner of our 2024 fiction contest (chosen by Rebecca Makkai), will be The Gospel of Salome by Kaethe Schwehn, forthcoming in late 2025. Although I welcome submissions from anyone whose work is rooted in spiritual questions, I’m particularly looking for novels and short-story collections from writers working outside Christianity, including Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Shintoism, and others. Although I’m primary a literary writer myself, I am VERY open to adult speculative fiction: science fiction, fantasy, and romantasy, and thrillers of all kinds. At the moment we are not publishing MG or YA, but that could change in the future.
I’m no longer on Twitter, but look for me on Threads and BlueSky.
Fun facts about me:
I wrote for women’s magazines for many years and once rode an elevator with JFK Jr. when he was publishing George.
Submission Guidelines
Wildhouse Fiction is a new imprint of Wildhouse Publishing, a small Boston-based publisher. Have you run into a brick wall with the Big Five? Send your work to us! We are looking for stories with a spiritual bent, but within those (very loose) guidelines what we want most is the next great book. We have a royalty structure that competes with the big guys and a full-time publicist, along with the marketing and distribution structure to get your book onto actual bookstore shelves.
Novels are preferrable, but we will consider story collections if they’re wildly original or incredibly well-written.
From January 15 – February 28th 2025 we will be accepting fiction submissions without a fee (novel and short-story collections). There are no length restrictions other than the submission should be a book, so above 40K words. See guidelines at www.wildhousepublishing.com/wifi. Please use our Submittable page (https://whp.submittable.com/submit) for all submissions .
