Rebecca Podos

Bio:

Senior Agent Rebecca Podos (she/they) has been with the Rees Literary Agency since 2011. A graduate of the MFA Writing, Literature and Publishing program at Emerson College, her own Young Adult fiction is published by Balzer+Bray/ HarperCollins and Running Press Kids/Hachette. She is thrilled to represent books by authors like Ashley Herring Blake, Rin Chupeco, Margie Fuston, Felicia Grossman, Sonia Hartl, Hannah Moskowitz, Shelly Page, London Shah, Brianna Shrum, Sara Taylor Woods, Rebecca Kim Wells, and more. In YA and Adult, I’m looking for:

• Stories by marginalized and underrepresented creators, from frothy books full of well-deserved joy, to epic romances set in distant galaxies, to rich contemporary stories, to monster-fighting and monstrous MC’s.

• Character driven-fantasy with deep roots in folklore and culture, featuring diverse characters, mythologies, and beasties, from Baba Yaga to the Bái Zé to the manananggal; any creature that lives a little outside the mainstream and in the shadows. This includes Jewish fantasy, or any fantasy featuring or built around a minority religeon.

• Magic realism in its traditional meaning as a movement of Latin American and Caribbean or African fiction.

• Horror as a vehicle for exploring identity or trauma; think Hill House, not Halloween.

In Young Adult, I’m actively looking for:

• Contemporary with a fresh perspective, gorgeous prose, and a strong hook.

• Queer genre YA of any kind, especially from QBIPOC

In Adult, I’m actively looking for:

• Romance across categories/romcoms, particularly queer and/or BIPOC. Anything comped to Alyssa Cole, Olivia Waite, Cat Sebastian, Georgia Beers, Rebekah Weatherspoon, Talia Hibbert, Alexandria Bellefleur, Rosie Danan, or Roselle Lim. Steam is very welcome, but not required!

• Mystery, but think cozies for modern readers or women’s fiction-adjacent, instead of hard-boiled detective stories

• SFF with a strong romantic element, or romance with a strong SFF element. Send your sweeping, sexy Kushiel’s Dart-style epics, please!

I am not currently looking for:

• Picture books

• Chapter books

• MG books

• Non-fiction.
