Saritza Hernández

A self-proclaimed geek who loves escaping into worlds and stories from all walks of life, Saritza is will be open to queries for the first two (2) weeks of every month and only accepting work from creators who identify with, or are members of, an underrepresented group or global majority. She has represented bestselling and award-winning authors and illustrators of commercial fiction and nonfiction for over 15 years. Her love of great storytelling has driven her work in the publishing industry, and her passion for amplifying queer and BIPOC voices is what continues to drive her today. An avid romance, fantasy, and science-fiction reader, Saritza is a strong advocate of traditionally underserved and underrepresented communities. She enjoys fresh voices in MG, YA, and adult genre fiction and select nonfiction. She’s particularly excited to find more commercial fiction by and for diverse audiences in her queries.

• Science Fiction: propulsive and thought-provoking plotlines that are otherworldly and have crossover appeal (think RAGE OF DRAGONS by Evan Winter, PROJECT HAIL MARY by Andy Weir, Pierce Brown’s RED RISING series, and THE BROKEN EARTH series by N.K. Jemisin)
• Fantasy: both cozy and immersive, character-driven stories that take you on a fantastical journey (think A WITCH’S GUIDE TO MAGICAL INNKEEPING by Sangu Mandanna, A PSALM FOR THE WILD-BUILT by Becky Chambers, DEATH OF THE AUTHOR by Nnedi Okorafor, and Analeigh Sbrana’s LORE OF THE WILDS duology)
• Gothic Tales and Horror: atmospheric, gripping haunted tales or visceral stories that keep you in a chokehold through the entire read (think THE BETWITCHING by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, THE POSSESSION OF ALBA DIAZ by Isabel Cañas, and HOUSE OF BONE AND RAIN by Gabino Iglesias)
• Cozy mysteries: quirky, amateur sleuths in small towns or tight-knit communities solving crimes (think Rachel Eckstrom Courage’s MURDER BY CHEESECAKE, Jesse Q. Sutanto’s VERA WONG’S GUIDE TO SNOOPING, and THE EX-GIRLFRIEND MURDER CLUB by Gloria Chao)

YA and MG Fiction

• All genres – though I’m particularly interested in more science fiction and romance in these categories.
