My Manuscript Wish List® Items
FICTION WISHLIST: I’m looking for literary and upmarket manuscripts that flip genres on their heads with complex, multidimensional characters. I’m drawn to smart dark comedies (think How To Get To Heaven from Belfast) and humorous octogenarian escapades a la Jonas Jonasson as well as traum-com, messy family dramas that make me laugh but also bring healing, and coming of age stories from female and/or LGBTQ protagonists. Currently digging road trip novels not only set in America as well as contemporary women’s fiction.
For real-world genre fiction, give me anything set in Ireland, Antarctica, or an exotic locale. I’m seeking thrillers with unreliable narrators, mysteries with fish-out-of-water sleuths playing detective badly, and wry, sardonic cold war espionage (looking at you, Slow Horses).Â
For out of this world fiction, send fantasy in all its form (love a never before seen magic system and bonus points for dragons!). Give me spec fic that makes me think, gothic lit that won’t keep me up at night but might require sleeping with a light on, and anything with a temporal twist along.
NONFICTION WISHLIST: For my nonfiction acquisition, I want well-researched materials that teach me something practical. From business leadership and macroeconomics to personal development and psychology, I’m looking for voices contributing new information to fields with a clear thesis supported by lived experience and well-crafted arguments. Special interests include landmark legal cases relevant to social justice, intelligence and whistleblowers, investigative journalism, examinations of Ukraine and Russian relations, certain post 1900 historical narrative nonfiction from marginalized perspectives, as well as the occasional inspirational nonfiction that explores liberal interpretations of religion.
